VAN ALPHEN FAMILY FARM
Small Scale Farming with a Big Heart
About Our Farm
Rooted in Garnet Valley
For the past twenty years, Marty and I have made our home here in the Garnet Valley — a place that has shaped our family, our work, and our way of life. In 2006, after selling Alder Street Auto Body to our eldest son, Kelsey, we shifted our focus to the farm, embracing a new chapter grounded in the land and the community we love.
Growing With Purpose
What began as a small family venture has grown into a space where tradition and possibility meet. Each season brings its own rhythm, and we’ve poured our hearts into learning, adapting, and caring for the land in a way that honours both its history and its future.
A Multigenerational Future
As we look ahead, we’re excited to welcome our second son Robert, his wife Kassity, and their growing family to the farm in 2027. Together, we’re shaping a future that blends experience, fresh ideas, and a shared love for this valley.
More Than a Farm
Whether you’ve known us for years or are discovering us for the first time, we’re grateful you’re here. This farm is more than a business — it’s a way of life, and we’re proud to share it with you.
Featured Products
Our chickens spend their nights cozy in two medium‑sized barns on our nine‑acre farm, and their days happily roaming the property. They enjoy grain along with fresh veggie scraps from local school food programs and food banks—a wholesome mix they look forward to. They’re raised with care, plenty of space, and the kind of daily attention that keeps them healthy and content.
We raise a small number of cattle each season and finish them on our pastures here in Garnet Valley. Our cattle are strictly grass‑fed and never given growth hormones—just clean forage, fresh air, and plenty of room to roam.
While whole animals and sides are available seasonally, the beef we offer through this website, at our Farm Gate, and at the farmers’ markets is limited to Ground Beef and Stew Beef, sold in 1 lb packages. All of our beef is processed through a certified local butcher to ensure quality and food safety from start to finish.
